You Don't Always Want Everything You NEED

Most of us are used to saying that people don't always need everything they want. Yes it's true. We all have our own bottomless pit of wish lists (or want lists) - things we want to achieve, we want to have, and want to own. Sometimes they overlap, sometimes these wishes don't even make sense taken together. In a way, we forget about our priorities and lose our focus on the "prize" - or what we really NEED in life. There comes a point in time however when inevitably we find ourselves pressed to make one choice - one want. Ultimately, upon prioritizing and thinking clearly we default to choose what we really NEED, amongst the hundreds of wants in our list.

This is easy.

But really, have we ever stopped and wondered if maybe what we really NEED is not even one of the things we want? How do we know we NEED something when we don't even desire to have it, or own it; or plainly don't even want it?

As for me, I am not any better at having the answer. I guess at this point what matters is going back to the idea that everything that we have and everything that's happening in our life right now is exactly what we NEED and exactly where we have to be. It is not serendipitous, but rather NECESSARY.

Time to segregate, listen conscientiously, take the plunge but with calcuations, go above the superficial. Time to start scrapping that want list, and building that NEED list. At the end of the day not everything we want may be given to us, yet everything we NEED is always within our reach - just waiting to be recognized.

The First Day of my Last Day (The Emotional Journey of A Resignee)

So this is what it feels like to be a bum... It is only Sunday and yet after just two days of being out-of-job, I already dread the coming days when I won't have anything to do. Sure the idea of watching tv all day, taking naps when I feel like it, and reading books in between is so so tempting. But at the end of the day, I still miss the idea of doing something important - something that I know has an effect in the greater scheme of things.

Still I'm thankful that I was able to have this chance to rest, getting to this point however wasn't quite that easy. It was an emotional rollercoaster which couldn't be helped.

When I first handed in "the letter", I felt a mix of emotions that to me felt even worse than breaking up with a boyfriend. After that afternoon, I couldn't barely eat for dinner and neither could I concentrate on anything that my friend was saying. Everything about me felt funny and all topsy-turvy, however none of it was in any form regret.

Despite all the madness going on inside my head, I knew deep down that it was but a step to something better in my life. Sleeping over it helped, and the next day what came over me was a sense of liberation. Slowly I felt like I was letting go one by one of little weights I carry with me. The only thing is, I couldn't help but be anxious of being away from friends that I got to know and love in two years' time.

Needless to say in the coming days and weeks after, I suffered a bad case of separation anxiety. I started to "try" and disengage myself from some of the things that I knew I would miss most about the office and the people I worked with - the hallway, the market place, the messy but still functional desks, the GHK-unfriendly areas, the Otis lunches, the food infested CMD-Foods area, the occasional "tsismis", the unending chatters, the countless laughters, the jokes, the loud singing of four different people of four different songs at a time.. Everything. I began to wonder if I'll ever feel as welcomed as I did at that moment, or if I'll ever walk in the same hallways again feeling proud of having real friends beside me whom I have the liberty to be playful with in what we call a workplace.

The days passed and the more that I came close to my last day, the closer I felt to everything I was leaving behind. I began to realize that I may not walk the same halls again with these people, I may not hear the same chatters everyday, or see the familiar chaos in our area; but that something important to do I'm missing now doesn't have to happen in the workplace. I have time. That is important. I have time to keep connecting with the people I left behind, time to reconnect with those I couldn't be with because of work demands, and time for myself that I could use to regain newfound energy for my next job. And this alone, forms part of the greater scheme of things.

What is the Purpose of Life?

Seems like a question coming from a confused person. But really, have we ever stopped to wonder why we are even here in this world? What is my purpose? And why does everything end?

It's a very standard question, but one that does not have a standard answer.

Stupid Question # 1

San napupunta ang balloon after niya magpop sa air? Bakit wala pa akong nakikitang ni isang air-less and popped balloon na nahuhulog from the sky? Bakit??

What's Your Feng Soup?

Since the Chinese New Year came up, we had to do an activity for the category that I handle - which is soups. We wanted to relate our Chinese Soups in line with the celebration, so one of the things we did was to activate a redemption. Normally during redemptions you would get free gifts, products, etc. However the redemption activity we did was something more special than that. We gave away free feng shui consultation, by no less than professional geomancers like Chat Alejandro.

And of course being adventurous when it comes to things like this, I tried 2 of them while doing my trade check :) Basically, what they said about 2007 was that it's going to be a good year for me. Because it came from two different geomancers at different places and time, of course I had to believe them. But yeah saying that it's going to be a good year is easy right. Wait till you hear one more thing that they BOTH told me (note that these two instances happened separately).

The geomancers said that it is possible that I am going to meet someone in 2007, get proposed to before the year ends, and get married next year! For crying out loud, next year? Hahaha. Well talk about coincidence. I just laughed out loud when I first heard it. But hearing it the second time? Well that gave me the creeps.

They both told me some more similar things.. But I think I'd rather not share that information. I'll just have to keep them to myself.

Anyway if you are born a Rooster, your best direction would be Southeast. So when you do meditation, or when you sleep, or when you play mah jong or poker, etc it wouldn't hurt to always face the Southeast. You never know, this might be where your luck will come from :)

When Bone Cracking Sounds Good

Last Saturday I attended a Yoga class with one of my closest friends. Until then, I didn't know that there were so many types of yoga. There are those called Bikram (which is yoga done in a hot room 38 degrees or higher), Iyengar, Ashtanga, and so on and so forth. The class is called Viniyoga. From what I gathered Viniyoga is a slower more individualized form of yoga. This form develops strength, balance and healing - which makes it ideal for beginners, seniors, people with chronic pain or who are in rehabilitation from injury or disease.

Contrary to what I always imagined that Yoga was not so much as strenuous as say doing the treadmill or aerodancing, I was surprised to experience profuse sweating during the class. The movements and the poses that you do (while doing deep breathing) really helps work the body out. Right now, I can still feel my tensed muscles so I'm guessing it helps tone the body too! I loved the meditation part, it made me feel so relaxed! And I swear I could have slept there had I not been conscious that I was in a class with other people!

On the whole, I really would recommend this type of exercise. It is not boring, it doesn't make your heart palpitate, it doesn't make you tired, it makes you sweat and thus lose toxins from your body. Plus, when I told a Feng Shui consultant I met that I just came from yoga, he said that that must be the reason why I had a really good aura about me. :) Even if only for that reason? You guys better try it!

Happy Valentine's Day..

Since the first time I spent my Valentine's with him, I always thought I'd be spending it that way forever..

The surprises excited me. I always looked forward to what was going to happen next. Each time, he really thought about what to do and carefully planned something really special for me. Sometimes I would even find myself crying over how much effort he put into things, tired as he may be from work. And I am reminded me of what a great guy I was with. Who, despite some inconveniences, always found a way to make me feel happy.

But sometimes when people are high up in the clouds, it takes a great push downwards to make them appreciate the simplest of things. When you already have what it is that you want, there comes a point when you want to experience the accessories. And sometimes we get too focused in them that we start to ignore what truly matters.

Now, I would’ve wanted to spend my Valentine’s in another way. Never mind the flowers, never mind the preparations, never mind the extraordinary plans. What I would have wanted most is to spend it with him, and all the coming ones with him. It wouldn’t matter if nothing special is about to happen. I realized, and learned it the hard way, that nothing else matters. As long as you are spending this day with the person you care about the most, the accessories play insignificant. Just the thought of knowing he would always be there with you wins over any flower in the world, any romantic setting, any sweet music.

Deja Vu

"Time flies. Time waits for no man. Time heals all wounds. All any of us wants is more time. Time to stand up. Time to grow up. Time to let go. Time." - Meredith Grey

It's been more than 3 months already, and I must say that sometimes it still feels as if it just happened yesterday. I take 1 step forward, and then take 2 steps back. I don't want to push myself into becoming anything that I know I don't want to be. I have made my choice before, and until now that is the same choice that I am making - whether or not that choice is the best for me.

Who knows what time will unravel. I would rather let it go on by itself than commit a bigger mistake. I want things to be perfectly laid out, and not half baked nor too mature. At this point, being sure is not just a commodity but a need. So if time will be kind to me, it will lead me to its true intentions. No mistakes, no regrets, no what ifs.

Some People Just Are.. Grrr..

It's hard to tell a story when you know that there's even the slightest chance the person you're going to tell the story about might come across what you've written. But I am just so fed up with you trying to bring me down into your miserable life of a recluse. I won't stay like this forever and definitely not ever going to be like your basket case self. Rarely do I get ticked off but you've rubbed in my situation for the nth freaking time, and I hate it. How can you not be more compassionate? I am not as strong as how you make me out to be, sometimes there are just some things that should be left alone, if you get what I mean. My nerves are not as numb as yours so just please back off. Shut up when you know it's not going to do anybody good. Just keep your misery to your self, because I will never share your demise with you. Grrrr.

Yin and Yang

Just because someone is near you does not mean that they really want to be there. You think that after something great, settling would be the easiest way to go. Encroaching on vulnerability to be the goal oriented person that you are typed to be. I just have to say, that only goes for the weak people. Unless I perceived some things to be another way, unless I am mistaken, you will forever be humming that tune - the one that you sang just a blink ago.

You may think your irony will captivate your audience, the one you want to hear you.. but life isn't about presenting a package. It's about giving what is real. Opening up with an end mind may bless you a shot at fleeting happiness. But really, is that what you want? If you think you deserve better, then never tear something apart for your sake. This is what you wished for, that is what you get. The irony goes back to you to haunt you. Now you're not the irony, your life is.

PDP/LGP

Okay so my teammates are telling me that it took them at least half a day to finish filling up their PDP's (Personal Development Plan, or in plain language - appraisal form). I'm just about to start mine, and I don't know where to begin or what to say. What's worse is that I have an hour and a half meeting in 10 mins! Hope babbling about it here helps.. :)

Bite Your Tongue

To see you when I wake up
Is a gift, I didn't think could be real
To know that you feel the same as I do
Is a three-fold utopian dream
You do something to me
That I can't explain
So would I be out of line
If I said I miss you..
I see your picture
I smell your skin on
The empty pillow next to mine
You have only been gone 10 days
But already I'm wasting away
I know I'll see you again
Whether far or soon
But I need you to know that I care
And I miss you..

After A Sweaty Day

Whew! Just came from practice and it's 10:30 in the evening. Not bad for someone who hasn't had exercise for so long. It feels good to look forward to dancing again. I guess my bones are now crankier than ever.. Oops gotta go.

Two Questions

1. Are you going to be happy with that person the rest of your life?
2. What about the age? Will you be required to settle earlier because you are younger?

*On question #1: But didn't you think, for most part of the relationship, that you were going to be happy with that person for most of your life? You did say you wanted to be with that person for the rest of your life right? Do a few months of not feeling happy erase all the things that you both dreamed about? A lifetime gives you more room for change, and working out. A few months is not enough to change a person. Those who get past these "bad" stages end up feeling the happiest and most fulfilled. Otherwise you'll just be constantly searching for something perfect, which is impossible to find.

*On question # 2: Early or late doesn't matter, as long as you are spending this time with the person you really want to be with.

--- You may have an idea of what is perfect, because of things you had in the past. But intentional offenses are worse than offenses that were not meant to be made. Offenses that were done out of sheer inability to care is worse than offenses made because the person didn't know any better. Ask yourself where you will be really happy. With a person who can afford to hurt you because of your mistakes, or a person who would be there for you no matter what?
